About this cause

Cancer is often detected too late in low-income communities due to lack of awareness and access. We run screening camps, survivor support groups, and community education drives to change that.

What we do

Free screening camps

Oral, cervical, and breast cancer screening by trained oncology nurses.

Community education

Door-to-door awareness drives and school programmes on early warning signs.

Survivor support

Counselling, peer groups, and financial aid referrals for cancer patients and families.

A story of change

The Story Behind This Cause

Why Cancer Awareness is at Our Heart

This cause is not just a programme — it is the reason this Trust exists. Subal Chandra Basu, our founder, lost his wife Subhadra Devi to cancer. That personal loss did not turn inward. It turned outward — into a lifelong, unconditional commitment to ensure that no destitute patient faces this illness alone.

He is not a doctor. He has no connection with the health department. Yet he became an almost daily presence in government and private hospitals across Kolkata — walking into radiotherapy departments at R.G. Kar and Calcutta Medical College, guiding patients who had never left their villages, buying medicines from his own pocket, and distributing leaflets on the early warning signs of cancer.

Now an octogenarian battling bladder cancer himself, he has not slowed down. Patients across West Bengal know him as Cancer Dadu — Cancer Grandpa. He has been living alongside cancer, and for cancer patients, for seventeen years. Every screening camp we run, every patient we reach early — it is all in honour of Subhadra Devi, and in the spirit of the man who refused to look away.
